The auction for the 40 larger-than-life kangaroos ended last week with the Hop for Hop event raising over $160,000 for the Alannah and Madeline foundation. Read More
My contribution for Hop for Hope is finally finished! The 1.2m tall fibreglass kangaroo (now named “Jill”) patiently sat in my kitchen for almost a month while I painted, detailed and varnished her coat. She is now complete and awaiting delivery to the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery in Victoria where she will join the 39 other decorated kangaroos for the Hop for Hope exhibition. Read More
Hop for Hope is a collaborative art exhibition showcasing 40 larger-than-life fibreglass kangaroos decorated by iconic Australian artists and identities. The kangaroos will be showcased at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery before being auctioned to raise funds for the Alannah and Madeline Foundation– a charity raising funds to project children from violence and bullying. I am honoured to be one of the artists working on this project and I currently am in the midst of preparing my concept for the hands-on painting phase which will take place over the next couple of weeks. Alacran is having a contest to decorate their black matte tequila bottles. My entry was inspired by the Alacran scorpion device, the distinctive black and white bottle and also some very cool marketing Alacran has done in the past, which showed the black bottle “splattering” other objects with black.
Below is an illustration I knocked up fairly quickly for a drink label.
The label is for my dad’s home-brew “Dragon’s Breath” which is butterscotch schnapps with a spicy twist. The aim was to have it look like a fairly authentic label so I made an additional little “distillery” logo; Doc Fubsy is one of his nicknames and 1955 is the year he was born. Read More
Since 2011 Holden have held a design competition to apply a custom design to a Barina Spark. Last year I entered the Holden Designer Spark competition but I didn’t have much time to design and promote my entry. So this year when they issued an email about the 2013 competition I made myself a goal to at least get a few entries in. The designs can be created using the digital tools or templates provided on the Holden Designer Spark website. The following are my three designs, I did want to do a fourth featuring a peacock but unfortunately ran out of of time again!Read More
This big night is fast approaching! The one and only chance for people to claim one of the 50 elephants painted for the Mali in the City event. Both of my painted elephants “Elephantasy” and “Here Today…” along with the 48 others will be auctioned off on the 25th of October.Read More
My second elephant ” Here today … ” for the Mali in the City event is finally finished! I’ve lost track of how long it took me but it took longer than “Elephantasy” because of the higher level of detail and more realistic approach. I’m so glad to be done, now I can sit back and wait for the other artists to finish and the elephants should be out in the city shortly after I get return to Victoria!Read More
