Hop for Hope is a collaborative art exhibition showcasing 40 larger-than-life fibreglass kangaroos decorated by iconic Australian artists and identities. The kangaroos will be showcased at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery before being auctioned to raise funds for the Alannah and Madeline Foundation– a charity raising funds to project children from violence and bullying. I am honoured to be one of the artists working on this project and I currently am in the midst of preparing my concept for the hands-on painting phase which will take place over the next couple of weeks.

I will be capturing the progress using time-lapse photography and I am also considering doing a few hours of live painting for anyone that might be interested in watching the process unfold inside my tiny kitchen-come-temporary-studio.

Below are a few shots of the planning phase of my work (all done in Photoshop). The brief calls for artists to interpret the theme of “hope” in their own style. I chose to use a combination of bright colours and birds, insects and flowers all flourishing along the kangaroo’s body to represent life, optimism and looking forward to a better tomorrow. Many translations of the word “hope” will also be incorporated into the design.
